I conduct research on the economics, behavioral economics, policy, and design implications of privacy
in social media. Current work explores disclosure patterns in social network sites over time,
“nudges” that affect privacy attitudes and behaviors, and the rise of “personally predictable”
information. Work supported by NSF IIS-0713361 and ITW-SBO. Led to award [A.4], conference
paper [C.7], chapter [B.3], sponsored report [SR.2], invited talks [IT.21–24], and media coverage
[MC.20–21].
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Information and Library
Science
Research Assistant, Dr. Gary Marchionini, 2005–2007, 2010–2011
In 2010 and 2011, I served as project manager for the Lifetime Library a perpetual digital library and archive for UNC students. Between 2005 and 2007, I
developed social media corpora and used these corpora in the evaluation of systems for faceted information
retrieval. Work supported by Microsoft Research Award “Annotations of Structured Data.” Led to dissertation
[T.1], awards [A.1–2], journal article [J.1], conference papers [C.1–4], short papers [P.2–3],
workshop [O.1], magazine article [M.2], panels [RP.1–3], invited talks [IT.1–9], and media coverage
[MC.1,4,16].

Science
Teaching Fellow, 2007–2010
As teaching fellow, I prepared and taught two original courses, Online Social Networks and Technologies of
Friendship: Relational Perspectives on Computer-Mediated Communication, serving as instructor of record
for six semesters. During my fellowship, I supervised five independent research projects, receiving the
Graduate Mentor Support Grant from the UNC Office of Undergraduate Research. Led to grant [G.6],
award [A.3], journal article [J.3], conference paper [C.6], invited talks [K.3, IT.17], classes [I.1–6], and
supervised theses [SS.1–5].
